Growing up around Irish food philosophies, Ashleigh Cotterill was amused by friends who swore by supplements and protein powders. Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is an herb that has been used as a natural diuretic in folk medicine for a long time (11).

Natural diuretics may help reduce water retention by making you pee more often.

In one study, 17 volunteers took three doses of dandelion leaf extract over a 24-hour period.

They monitored their fluid intake and output during the following days, and reported a significant increase in the amount of urine produced (12).

Although this was a small study with no control group, the results indicate that dandelion extract may be an effective diuretic.

Bottom Line: Dandelion may help reduce water retention, especially when consumed as a leaf extract.

Grow Plan

  1. Open the tin and remove the seeds
  2. Add water to the pellet and let pellet grow
  3. There is a hole in the top of the pellet make sure this is facing up
  4. Pour seeds into the hole and cover with soil from the pellet
  5. Set in the sun
  6. Make sure you keep the pellet moist by adding a few teaspoons of water everyday
  7. After 5 days you see some sprouts growing out of the pellet
  8. As the plant grows its good to let it have 4-6 hrs of sun everyday but make sure the area is partly shaded so your seedling doesn't get burnt in the hot Malaysian sun.
  9. After 20-30 days you will be able to repot you seedling by dropping the plant and its soil pellet straight into a larger pot with soil.
  10. You can start snipping your herbs to add to your meals everyday.

Here is the recipe for the flavour of the day its super easy to make at home!

Hibiscus Tea Bird Teabag plus 1 Vanilla Tea Bird Teabag

1 litre boiling water - you can make 2 litres but its up to you on the strength of the taste you would like..

1 sliced orange - can leave peel on or off as you prefer 

Honey or Tea Bird Tea Syrup to sweeten as desired

Preparation

  1. We like to cook in a  saucepan so you can boil up the orange and get that extra layer of taste.
  2. If you are using our loose leaf blends you can add both blends into 1 teapot at the same time using 1 teaspoon of each.
  3. Add boiling water
  4.  Let brew for 10-15 mins - there are no tannins in these teas so they will not taste bitter when left to steep.
  5. Pour into saucepan with your sliced orange
  6. Simmer until orange is saturated with the tea blends

Serve hot and add honey or Tea Bird Tea Syrup to sweeten optional

Serve cold - left cool then place in a jug in the fridge - the taste is strong so you can happily add as much ice as you like

Did you know that people who sleep less are on average 10 pounds heavier than people who get 8 hrs a night? I have literally not slept in a week - if I spend 1 night working then I am sure to finish the ice-cream, and then be woken up by the kids on the remaining 4 work nights of the weeks.

In my minds eye this is exactly how I look everyday ;0/ No self esteem issues here then! But seriously I don't know if its a hindrance or a help to have self belief, I mean I am not one of those girls who goes out wearing next to nothing but as I have put weight on my posture has become worse over the years. Late nights on the laptop don't help either - in fact I just spent some time reading about how too much stress can significantly effect your weight loss and the speed there off so this week I am going to putting work to the side as such and make sure I get my 7-8 hrs sleep a night and see if it changes anything.
