Fugeelah Earings

Fugeelah was setup to provide monetary support to Fugee School to drive the sale of products the students and community could produce themselves. Part of this though was that the product should enable Fugeelah to support 3 key values;

Enterprise - create the passion in someone to be enterprising and they will never go hungry. To be enterprising is to be quick thinking, resilient and fast moving while also understanding your target market. We like to think of it as HOPE - having hope everyday that your sales will come in because you have created a great product that everyone wants.

Here are some of the beautiful earrings we bought for our friends and family.

Empowerment - often all you need to do is to show someone how to do something so they can then do it for themselves - this simple act is the act of passing empowerment onto someone. When you empower someone through skill, through location, through opportunity you are giving them a chance - a chance to change their situation.

Check out the back of your purchase when you receive it - the tag tells you who made the piece and where they are from.

Educate - people understand nowadays that actually the basic tools of reading and writing are essential to be able to live but Fugee School supports these children with a full education all the way up to examinations for university.

The Fugeelah business is also supported by a full program outlining how education can be correlated with the development of Fugeelah and the students from the Fugee School.

Running a school is expensive especially when there are no parents queuing up to pay for their kids education...and although on the face of it Fugee School is a charitable organisation which provides education for refugees it is essentially still a business which needs to run.

And to run it needs money, not just for books but for staff, for teachers, electricity, water bills, computers, exam entry, paints, for everything and anything you can think you need to setup and run a school. Fugeelah will aim to bear the brunt of that running cost over time...

I remember asking Deborah Henry Co-Founder of Fugee School so whats next how is the school going to continue? She said - this is it - it's here - its a school offering children education we have to keep it running...

Charity is an interesting area - how many times can you rely on subscriptions, or kind hearted philanthropists and wealthy supporters travelling around handing out cash to pay the bills?

The answer is you can't - there needs to be some understanding of creating something that can pay for itself otherwise there is no growth, for the students, the people running it - this school is changing peoples lives everyday and thats a great thing but creating a school which empowers, educates and creates enterprise amongst its students to enable them to come together and create Fugeelah well that is truly the GREAT achievement here - awesome job all round.
