Meet Ashleigh

Ashleigh Cotterill is the founder, designer, artist and creative brain behind Tea Bird Tea. She does not mind what you call her as long as you keep smiling and do not sweat the small stuff. She loves travelling, freckles and family, and has one big life goal: to look like a salty sea dog with a million stories to tell when she grows old.

How it all started

Tea Bird Tea began with a simple idea. Take an everyday cup and make it better. Better for your health, better for the planet and a lot more fun on the shelf.

“We began in Australia with grow in the bag herbs and vegetables. Pretty soon customers were asking us if they could grow their own tea. That got us thinking. We picked the parts of the body we wanted to support, we picked the raw ingredients, and we spent months sampling until the blends were just right. We hustled in the markets and in September 2015 we put our first packs on supermarket shelves in Malaysia. We have not looked back since.”

Morning, Noon and Night

Our teas are built around daily rhythm. Look closely at the logo and you will see it. The eyelid is Morning, the moon shaped cheek is Night and the clock is Noon.

“Our teas follow a digestion, cleanse and energise focus using both caffeine free and caffeine blends so we really do have you covered.”

Better choices every day

From the start we wanted to make an everyday product better. In 2016 we switched from loose leaf to organic cornstarch teabags. No glue, no staples, no strings, no toxins. Just compostable bags that give you the best product and the best taste for your daily cup of tea.

Our packaging is hand drawn by Ashleigh, inspired by Asian culture, the Malaysian jungle and a touch of folklore. Colourful tins and cases designed to brighten your shelf, not hide in a cupboard.

Where the tea comes from

We handpick our teas from the sunny slopes of India, Sri Lanka, China, South Africa and Malaysia. Being close to our source means we know the supply chain, we taste at origin, and we bring fresher flavours into every blend.

“Tea has been used as a natural daily beverage for hundreds of years, using only the health benefits of the ingredients available in each country throughout history. Our Tea Bird Tea range is designed to complement your daily rhythm, supporting digestion in the morning, giving energy in the afternoon and restful sleep at night.”

Ten years on, Tea Bird Tea is still independent, still organic and still focused on creating blends that make you feel good. Our blending and packing home is in Johor Bahru, a lively hub that connects us to Malaysia, Singapore and the world. From here our colourful tins now travel to tea lovers in the UK, US, Europe and Japan.
